Hi everyone! Miss Barb here!

I love puppets. We've made a few in the past! We made puppets out of cloth a few years back and we made puppets out of cotton balls as recently as December. And guess what... we are making puppets again! This time it will be out of paper.

Just like the Three Little Pigs each build their house out of different materials, we can make puppets from many different things. The stories we tell with those puppets can also go many different ways. As you'll learn in our books and songs this month, a change of perspective can change the narrative. In other words, Who Tells the Tale matters a whole lot.

What kind of tales will you tell with these puppets, I wonder? Will it be like the classic Three Little Pigs? Will the wolf be the protagonist this time? Maybe it ends with the wolf and the pigs getting along and learning the true meaning of friendship! I guess we will have to make these puppets and see.

A final note: this craft template is a legacy resource from Educational Insights. I couldn't find the original lesson plan for sale on their website. This link will take you directly to the pdf of the template, which includes an activity plan for more fun with your puppets!

🐷 Tell the Tale Puppets 🐺

SUPPLY LIST

🐷 Scissors

🐷 Stapler or Tape

🐷 Craft Stick

🐷 Extra Paper

🐷 Coloring utensils (crayons, markers, etc.)

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1: Color the pigs and wolf. Cut them out.

Step 2: Choose your own adventure! Would you like to attach your puppet to a stick or put it directly onto your finger?

Finger: Trace a back piece to the dimensions of the lower half of your figure. Cut the piece out. Use staples or tape to affix the two sides together. Slide your finger between them for a neat finger puppet!

Stick: Color the craft stick. Tape or glue the stick to the back of the puppet. Now you have a stick puppet!

And there you have it! A new way to Tell a Tale. What kinds of stories can you come up with?

We hope you will join us for making this craft in person on May 10th! Please note the change in venue for our Idaho Falls programs.
